YAY and NAY!

I'm not sure what icon i should use for this post

Thank you to all who wished me luck with my comp! Everything's fine with it and i'm gonna get it back very soon. LOVE YOU ALL! ♥♥♥ *HUGGLES*
That's the YAY part of this post!

Here comes the NAY, though. I'm REALLY (wanted to say another word but i thought it would be too RUDE) tired ( TOO PISSED OFF THAT I WANNA SCREAM) of hotlinking. My bandwidth limit has exceeded AGAIN and i haven't uploaded anything in the last few days! What the hell's happening??? And the most important thing! The question: WHY ARE THESE THINGS happening to MOI? The account exceeding once? Fine. Annoying as(let's just say annoying!) but still fine. My comp having a virus. Scary as hell but still fine because in the end things worked out *pets my comp*  *loves my comp* But THIS? This is the last straw! Plain RUDENESS, that's what it is. *grumbles*

If this continues i will have to find another solution for this problem. Any ideas, dear f-list?

YAY!! I'm so glad your comp is okay!

The bandwidth could be due to how many people are actually clicking on the stuff that you post to see them. That's the problem I had with photobucket. I had to get a paid account so it wouldn't happen anymore.

Thank you, sweety!

Y'a think? Well, that's just...stupid. And very smart in the same time. Not for us-- the users-- obviously.

You're welcome!

That's what I thought too. And I actually contacted photobucket because I couldn't understand how I was exceeding my bandwidth and they explained to me that while hotlinking uses bandwidth so does anyone coming onto your site and clicking the images.

The only thing that I can suggest is either buy an account at photobucket or use the scrapbook here. If you use the scrapbook you don't have to worry about any hotlinking because bandwidth usage isn't a problem that I know of.

Thanks :)

I hate the scrapbook here, though. It's so sloooow but if i have no other option(except from buying an account) i'll hato to settle for it.

Good news about the computer

Hotlinking - grrrrrrrrrrrrrr - it's the same with so many things. A few people ruining our fun - really frustrating

But - Yay for computer!

Thank you, sweetheart!♥

Yes, it's sad really. My friend [livejournal.com profile] angelus2hot said that it might be another thing, though. That the bandwidth is due to how many people click on your stuff. I don't know what to think...
28th-Dec-2010 10:52 pm (UTC)
Yay for getting computer back with all your stuff! Boooo....to hotlinking.

What setting do you have on your photobucket account? Maybe you need to change those. Hotlinking is evil.

29th-Dec-2010 12:00 pm (UTC)
Thanks!♥

Hmmm i'm not really sure. I think my album's locked or sth like that. Do you mean these settings?
29th-Dec-2010 12:13 pm (UTC)
There is a drop arrow besides your name at the top of your page when you are signed in on photobucket. Click on Account Settings. Then click on Privacy settings. There you can chose several different levels of privacy.

Under Media Privacy it says: Allow others to copy my media: Select this option to display the download option on the full-size view for images, the copy to my album option on the full-size view for images and videos, and allow right-click copy for images. If you turn the option off, it deactivates the download and the copy to my album options and disables right-click functionality in your account on the Photobucket website.

If I understand it correctly, no one will be able to link or upload your art. I have it set to where no one can do this, but I am able to do it on my own albums.

Thanks a lot for your help, hun!♥

I'll try that right away.

Can you rename the folder your images are stored in once in awhile? It would mean you'd need to update your own links at the same time -- not so bad if you can do a global search-and-replace, but a pain otherwise.

Even better is if, in the location where your images used to be before you renamed the folder, you put new copies of your files with rude messages on them. That way whoever is trying to hotlink to your pretty pictures gets outed to their own site's visitors. I knew one graphics designer who used to call those "golden raspberries:" a way of saying "PBPBTHTHPH" to the bandwidth thieves. Emotionally satisfying, but it wouldn't stop the drain on your bandwidth.

So glad to hear your 'puter is better!

Thank you♥ Christmas magic does exist!

LOL! That graphic designer is made of WIN! That's a wonderful idea, thanks.

YAY for the computer being better... I still suggest backing your files up... you never know... if there's a next time it might not turn out so well.

Sorry about the bandwidth thing... hopefully you can get that worked out.
29th-Dec-2010 12:04 pm (UTC)
Oh, yes! Of course! I'll do it right away. Next time it might be more than a scare.

Yeah. That word "bandwidth" drives me insane. At least this time the images will be recovered earlier but i still have to think of another option to store my images.
29th-Dec-2010 03:13 am (UTC)
YAY for not losing your stuff!

Boo for Photobucket. Do you save your graphics on an external hard drive? IDK, that's what I do...
29th-Dec-2010 12:08 pm (UTC)
*yays and jumps around(if you don't want to, i'll do the jumping part :D) with you*

Do you upload yours here on lj?
30th-Dec-2010 02:25 am (UTC)
*jumps on a trampoline*

Uh, I don't upload many at a time? Just for userpics...
29th-Dec-2010 10:56 am (UTC)
W00t for the saved computer! \0/

I agree with the suggestions from previous answers, saving everything on an external drive is what I usually do, and for the bandwidth problem you could try the LJ scrapbook, not as handy as Photobucket, but doesn't mangle .jpgs (though at times it "loses" an icon ot two) ;-)
29th-Dec-2010 12:09 pm (UTC)
Thank you♥

But i really don't like the scrapbook here. It's soooo slooooow*moans* But i guess i'll have to go with it.

I'm so glad hat nothing was lost in your computer problems. It's a great relief, I imagine.:)

OH YOU CAN"T IMAGINE! I AM THRILLED AND I CAN'T STOP YAYING! ♥

My question regarding your computer is already answered :)
Glad you didn't loose anything.

Regarding the hotlinking:
To test, google yourself.

http://community.livejournal.com/hotlinkers/3709.html

And have you opted out of the LJ RSS?
http://japewierd.livejournal.com/168341.html
"Admin Console" and entering set latest_optout yes
(More in these posts)
From the LJ RSS Feed entries get reposted.

Wow! Thank you so much, sweety. This will help me out a lot.

I've alreay googled myself and found a few of my images and i think they're hotlinked so i might have to contact the hotlinkers.

cordykitten: (Good Luck!)
I forgot who it was, (s)he replaced the imaged with a big big image Hotlinking *g*
But I don't know how you get the same URL for a new image.
Good luck.

I'm glad you got your computer working again!! *hugs*

It's a shame to hear about all your bandwith problems! I'm not very familiar with imageshack and bandwidth but perhaps all the moving animations on your journal layout are using a lot of bandwith. I'm pretty sure that each time someone clicks or refreshes a page or entry, the sum bandwith of those animations is used. If those sum a lot a lot and multiply by lots of page clicks then that could be one reason your bandwidth gets used so quickly.

I hope you get it worked out! It's such an annoying frustration!
5th-Jan-2011 08:57 pm (UTC)
*hugs tight* I'm so glad too!

Yes, you're completely right but i don't know where else i can store my images. The only other option is here at Lj but the Lj uploader is too slow for me. Don't know why. * le sigh*
